New Partnerships for Building Impact Assessment Capacity in the CGIAR, 2013-2015

This two-stage call announced in August 2013 sought to identify organizations and individuals to undertake an activity or a set of activities to building capacity within CGIAR, both at Center and CRP levels, for conducting highly credible ex post impact assessments.

Over 2014 and 2015, Virginia Tech (George Norton and Jeff Alwang) will work in collaboration with CIP and CIFOR to build IA capacity. Specifically, they will

  • Lead two sets of workshops with staff and senior management at CIP and CIFOR
  • Work with CIP and CIFOR on four pilot impact assessment studies

Over late 2014 and 2015, University of Illinois (Alex Winter-Nelson, Mary Arends-Kuenning, Kathy Baylis) will work in collaboration with ICRISAT to build IA capacity. Specifically, they will

  • Lead a workshop with scientists of CGIAR Centers (economists, statisticians, biophysical scientists) on advanced methods in impact assessment
  • Work with ICRISAT (through a post-doctoral fellow) on pilot impact assessment studies

In 2016, Univ. of Illinois - based on the interest in the first workshop - was funded to hold a second workshop on impact assessment methodology at WorldFish in Philippiness (May 2017). You can download the lecture slides from the impact assessment discussion board (open only to CGIAR scientists) or from Jeff Michler's website (https://sites.google.com/site/jeffdmichler/teaching/asia-ia-workshop), if interested.
